Hurricane Dorian

The situation

Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas in September 2019. Companies wanted to give in kind. The offices coordinating the response had no mechanism for turning that willingness into matched, useful donations at speed.

What ran

We deployed a landing page for USAID/OFDA on which nonprofits and private-sector companies could list needs and offers, supplied the office with language and graphics for social media, and worked directly with participating organisations to close the matches.

What it produced

In under two months, more than two dozen companies committed over $4 million in in-kind donations, and we facilitated matches representing over $200,000 of donations to NGOs working in the Bahamas.

This is the cost argument in a single deployment: a landing page and a matching layer, configured in days rather than built over months.
